Having a tidy up today, I came across my flower log for 1st January 1985. Flowers seen were gorse, white deadnettle, yarrow, speedwell, red deadnettle, shepherd’s purse, dandelion, daisy and groundsel.  Contrast that with this year’s poor showing.  There was cold weather in 1985 also as my diary notes that the weather was cold and dry and, a couple of days later, skating in the water meadows, the day after that falling through and getting a wet bottom!
