Record Keeping

I’ve just printed off this year’s queen/hive number and location card. It fits in my filofax in front of the current individual cards. It’s a system that has suited me for well over a decade now, so my queen numbers are well into 3 figures.  I track list the mother and daughters (if known) of each queen so if any useful genetic traits appear I will know where they came from.

The late Dave Cushman (who died about a year ago) put pictures of my cards, together with a full explanation, on his web site, so, if you’re interested google: Chris Slade’s Record Cards.

Hi Chris, and greetings from a fellow beekeeper (and cricket fan) in South Wales. We were formerly in South Somerset ( learned my basic beekeepng from the SBKA) before moving here in October of last year.

I shall be re-stocking my two hives this year, my former colony having swarmed last Spring (when I only had a single hive), so I look forward to beginning again and following your blog as I do.

    With best wishes

    David Popely
