There I was in Tesco approaching the till when I caught the eye of the lady in front of me in the queue. It was Fiona, the witch who had used all my beeswax for her potions!  We met with a kiss and a hug and she introduced me to her friend Karen.

They were just back from Portugal where, although it wasn’t the main purpose of their journey, they had met beekeepers and visited apiaries, including one with cork hives. I wonder whether it is the same one that I pictured in my (co-authored with Dave MacFawn of S.Carolina) book: Getting the Best from Your Bees?  They had sampled the Portuguese honey and found it to be dark and strongly flavoured, as I did.

Karen comes from Hertfordshire (or was it Hereford?) and knows someone there who is a top bar enthusiast.

Small world or were we drawn together by mystic forces?
