I didn’t manage to contact them, but they have contacted me! Somebody must be reading my blog! I received a mail yesterday from Julie at Eden who doubles as gardener and apiarist. She tells me that all three of the hives visible on a bluff are occupied, 2 all season and the third only recently. They also have a dozen hives of several types tucked away in an orchard where the public don’t go yet. They are working on an African type of top bar hive to go into the tropical forest biome but this won’t have bees in it as Julie doesn’t fancy shinning up those massive trees chasing a swarm! Hmmm… they have a hot air balloon in that biome now, so maybe she could chase a swarm smoothly and elegantly from the safety of its basket!
Julie and co are considering setting up a telescope or binoculars to enable people to see activity at the hive from a safe distance. I have suggested that it might be better to go high tech and put a movie camera in a strategic position and show in real time on a screen, maybe in The Core, what’s happening at the hive.
